Fire throws a birthday party with his best new artists this evening. It will be streamed live. 8:50PM – FAWN SPOTS (UK) > Punk rock trio. Devotees of early Joy Divison/Warsaw, Hüsker Dü and Rites of Spring. Razor edged, lightning fast short blasts of hyperactive noise with bittersweet melodies.
9:30PM – KEEL HER (UK) > High standard lo-fi experimental bedroom pop.
10:10PM – SCOTT & CHARLENE’S WEDDING (AUS) > “I’m a fucking furniture removalist from Adelaide. I write down-and-out pop songs. I write songs about every job that I do.”

It’s been two years since the last Piresian Beach EP was released. Alle Falle hit a darker tone, now I cannot see for miles is a much more mixed one, sporting brighter tones as well and a nice pack of self-irony. RNR666 is here to present. You are here to consume.

The album starts off with a slower, yet still energic one, called ‘Sex Claws’. Zsofia rings her trademark voice with backing vocals giving an ancient feel that Mother Nature herself invites us to her bedroom. Don’t let me out in the dark, she begs but it won’t happen, as the song gets brighter and brighter, filling the mind. In more human words: make sure you wear comfortable underwear listening to this.

World peace ends fast as ‘Well who are you‘ operates with a tobacco filled throat, yelling, but still catchy vocals, drums which pump glitter in your face and guitars inspired by folk songs.

Weird songs are always welcome. Weird songs with self-irony are more than welcome. Mix the two ingredients and you get a cocktail of fun and remorse: ‘Blood in the gutter’. Not suitable for children under the age of 3.

‘I cannot see for miles’ is one of the faster songs on the EP but it has a strange flow that makes it one of the slowest. It’s like bathing nude in overhelming waves of warm water in a spa among miserable old people, without giving any fuck.

‘Rotten Raspberries’ is not the highlight of the album but you can still make some push ups, or show your stupidest dance moves in a party to your friends in glasses while listening to it.

Guess the party was too hardcore cause the ending song ‘Vitamins’ reminds me of nothing else but a funeral procession. Despite being the heaviest song on the EP, or the heaviest ever written by Piresian Beach, it is also very catchy, which can leave you in awkward situations. Like whistling it on your regular summertime visit to the cemetery.

This EP shows that Zsófia Németh is not here to make music to run away from boredom. These tunes prove her progression of writing better and better pop songs, in a shell of garage and psychedelic rock.

Munster Records is an independent Spanish label created in the 1980s. In the last decade its main focus has been reissues of punk, garage, rock and other akin genres and subgenres. They also frequently release records by contemporary bands.

CHRIS STROFFOLINO – I’M NOT GOING ASTRAY, 7″

Chris Stroffolino is a former Silver Jew who moved to Los Angeles and found himself without a permanent home, living out of a 1983 Ford Econoline van in which he’d fitted an upright piano (the now famous “Piano Van”). He is a musician, a scholar with a Ph.D in Shakespearian studies and a published poet – but he was playing the piano for tips in order to survive, which is how Jeff Feuerzeig (the filmmaker responsible for The Devil And Daniel Johnston and other musician theme films.) discovered him. These three tracks were all recorded in the van in Griffith Park, Los Angeles. There is a cover of Alice Cooper’s “I Never Cry”

‘O’ LEVEL – PSEUDO PUNK, LP (co-release with Discos Alehop!)

The first vinyl reissue of the two official singles of British punk band ‘O’ Level: ‘East Sheen’ (recorded in November 1977) and ‘The Malcolm EP’ (recorded in December 1978). This compilation also includes three tracks from February 1979 never released on vinyl before, plus a rawer alternative version of ‘East Sheen’ dating from March 1978. ‘O’ Level was created in 1976 by London guitarist Ed Ball along with two friends from school. Almost same line-up recorded the first Television Personalities single in 1977.

TEENAGE FILMSTARS – (THERE’S A ) CLOUD OVER LIVERPOOL, LP (co-release with Discos Alehop!)

After ‘O’Level Ed Ball’s next, ska and mod influenced band was Teenage Filmstars in 1979-80. Their three official singles reissued on vinyl for the first time.

The musician behind Kord is an original member of Swedish cult electronic/acid oufit Frak and producing music since the late 1980’s… with Kord he produces a more synthpop minded kind of music… most of the time… for Gooiland Elektro he teamed up with his partner in crime/love and came up with this raw elektro EP… these tracks are the perfect mix of crazy and twisted electronic music (a signature of his Frak work) and dancefloor orientated sounds since the late 1980’s… so we get served unpolished dance tunes with hints of EBM, new beat and (minimal) elektro… non stop primitive disco for sure!

Dutch acid and elektro veteran has been around for a long time… being part of the old school acid scene from The Hague with releases on legendary label Acid Planet and he is one of the originals (again) when it comes to the new wave of electro in the late 1990’s… especially for Gooiland Elektro he has created this dark elektro EP… Beta Evers and Sololust appearing as partners in crime… elektro, acid (beat) and a touch of old school gothic come together!

The album is noisy but without being a simple drone… the band serves you lo-fi industrial soundscapes presented as songs… sometimes haunting and disturbing but the next minute soothing and hypnotic… ‘Repeating Mistakes’ is not an easy listening album but a piece of music you need to discover by listening to it over and over again… peeling away layers and uncovering the true nature of the songs by doing this… this is simply minimal electronics as it should sound!
