The London Dirthole Company started as a two piece project in London in 2002 by Kirsten Reynolds and Ashley Davies as simple Dirthole. Within weeks this duo had become a 10-piece garage punk band: 4 stand-up drummers, 4 guitarists, bassist and singer. They have written as influence: The Fall, Velvet Underground and The Monks. Their music also reminds me of Dog Faced Hermans and The Ex.

Kirsten Reynolds is a many sided artist, she has started her musical career as a sculptor, who built sculptural instruments. Learnt to play on drums and joined pyrotechnic metal percussion ensemble The Bow Gamelan in 1990. Los Blenders are coming from Mexico City and they are just about to become well-known worldwide with their dreamy tunes fully soaked in reverb.  Meta y dinero ruled over many music bloggers and their previous releases also have everything we really love about hispanic rock. This music reminds me of wanting to remain a kid/girl forever – what else do you need?

Mesa Cosa is a band from Mexico with an eclectic stage image – a short Mexican guy, a tall tambourine guy and … yes, saxophones. Their first and very promising EP Infernal Cakewalk came out in 2012 (I’d better post about it later than never, right?) so I bet it’s high time they came out with something new, hopefully they are still together. They basically play a powerful blend of The Stooges, Los Saicos, classic surf tunes and I guess they listen to all sorts of freak out music of the 00’s.

Eva & John is a Peruvian band from Lima and they are playing reverby epic noise pop songs, to which everyone wants to sing and jump around after a couple of drinks. With only two songs available so far (on a flexi single, which are probably still for sale) they managed to appear on numerous end of the year lists – on my personal one as well <3

The Italian „just another Afro-Grind band” Mombu feat. Dario Fo in Paradiribiriparadiribombidamdambum

Dario Fo (born 1926) is an Italian actor-playwright, comedian, singer, theatre director, stage designer, songwriter and recipient of the 1997 Nobel Prize in Literature.

The latest Mombu album is the Niger. „Niger’ has many meanings, first black in Latin, our mother tongue. It’s not only the color but also the moods and all that is associated with the black. Then it’s the name of a river and an African country. We like all. Mombu ties together all of these similarities. Africa represents for us what we have lost some time, a connection with the land and nature.” There is a Senegalese musician, poet and griot, Mbar Ndiaye, who sings and plays on percussion on the album. In West-Africa the grins are „repository” of the oral tradition.
