Somewhats for Hosehead

The Hosehead Records is a little independent garage rock/punk/power pop record label in Canada.

hosehead

What was the cause of starting of the label?

– Hosehead Records is just two guys from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Myself (Patrick) and Mike. Mike plays in a band here called First Base, and in May 2011 they needed a label to release a new cassette tape EP, so we just thought of the name Hosehead and that was pretty much it! We’re lucky that people liked what we were doing, because we could have just as easily stopped and vanished right there.

What’s the main profile?

– What do you mean by this?

– Sorry but I’m stupid, that the question shows it.

What was the greatest success?

Technically speaking, we’ve sold more Steve Adamyk Band 7″s than anything else, so that’s the biggest success. in 2014 we’re putting out our first LP, which is a huge success since we started out by putting out cassettes. We’ve saved up money from anywhere possible to put out records, so it feels like it’s been a long time coming.

What was the greatest surprise in the course of your story?

The biggest surprise is that anyone cares about what we do at all! We only put out music that both of us love, so when we find other people that are into what we like, it’s a great feeling. We’re both big record collectors, so we know what it’s like to find a record we never knew existed but suddenly can’t live without.

What will be the next release?

Our next release is a split release with P. Trash Records from Germany. It’s the debut LP by Ottawa, Ontario, Canada’s Average Times. They sound like a mix between Mean Jeans, Ramones and Marked Men. From the first time I heard the song „She Knows”, I knew we had to put out their LP. That is out March 4th, 2014.

Psychedelic Jungle

The Cramps were one of the greatest rock’n’roll bands ever. They played B-Movies inspired psychedelic rockabilly mixed with blues, punk and surf. It was founded by Lux Interior and Poison Ivy in New York in 1976.

Lux: First time I saw her she was walking down the street, hitchhiking, and she was wearing a halter-top and short shorts with a big hole in the ass with red panties showing through. I was with this other guy, a friend of mine, and we both just went, “Who-o-o-oh!” We pulled over and I think I had a hard-on about three seconds after I saw her. It was 1972, and we were at Sacramento State College.

Ivy: I’d just started college, and one day I was hitchhiking back from the campus to my apartment, when Lux and a friend of his gave me a ride. I’d seen him around the campus, and I thought he was extremely exotic. He would have these pants and each leg of the pants was a different colour. (…) Lux seemed like a creature from another world, with one foot already out of this dimension. (…) We were both studying art at Sacramento State College in the early Seventies. It was a very strange art department in Sacramento at that time, too, because the whole student population was made up of hippies, and they were into witchcraft and metaphysics and everything else. We met up in a class called Art and Shamanism. The textbook for that class was called ‘The Sacred Mushroom and The Cross’, and the subject of that book is how the real topic of the Bible is the Amanita muscaria mushroom and that Christ is a metaphor for this magic mushroom.

Lux: Rock ’n’ roll has absolutely nothing to do with music. It’s much more than music. Rock ’n’ roll is who you are. You can’t call the Cramps music. It’s noise, rockin’ noise.

In 2010, San Marcos in Texas was listed in Business Week’s survey of the „Best Places to Raise your Kids.” Scott H. Biram, the Dirty Old One Man Band comes from here. „My music is the bastard child of Punk, Blues, Country, Hillbilly, Bluegrass, Chain Gang, Metal, and Classic Rock,” or in brief it’s „Depression Era Metal.” About love and jelaousy, alcohol and drugs, sin and forgiveness and similar stupid, but very important human affairs.
