1. The enigmatically beautiful Katalin Kirby has made the album AN EMPTY BLISS BEYOND OLD BUDAPEST from tunes of a lost world as THE CARTAKER. WORLD PREMIERE

2. Amazing Swiss post-punk band PETER KERNEL‘s new album THE SIZE OF THE NIGHT by ON THE CAMPER RECORDS (CH)

—–

3. Influential three women fronted NY city post-punk band BUSH TETRAS was founded in 1979 by guitarist Pat Place after leaving the no-wave group James Chance and The Contortions. They brought funky dance songs and vocal rhythms to the freaky outsider punk scene. They broke up in 1983, reunited for a short time in the mid-90s and second time in 2005. Since they have released two albums and the third TAKE THE FALL is coming in April on WHARF CAT RECORDS (US)

—–

4. GENTLE LEADER XIV pulls on synth-heavy, chorus-filled ’80s heartstrings without diving deep into nostalgia, evoking emotional memory over a gray template of realism. It’s pop without future, love without romance, survival with an undercurrent of persistent loss. debut album CHANNELS on MONIKER RECORDS (US)

—–

5. SCOTTIBRAINS are the enigmatic elusive four-piece who formed through a love of late night, early morning jams at band founder, producer and Speedy Wunderground head Dan Carey’s studios in London. Theirs is hard-hitting, unsympathetic rock resembling punk’s early days, but with an increased musicality that makes it all their own. Taking their name from a shared love of San Franciscan psych outfit Bunny Brains and Dan’s cat Scotti.

Limited 7″ single on SPEEDY WUNDERGROUND – mixed by the one and only ORLA CAREY (aged 13)!

—–

6. CHAI is 4 Japanese girls: Mana, Kana, Yuna, and Yuuki. They say Tom Tom Club, Basement Jaxx, Gorillaz, Cansei de Ser Sexy and Marvin Gaye as their influences. I add Devo and Gary Neuman to them. Their debut album PINK released now on BURGER RECORDS (US). Originally on FLAKE RECORDS in 2017.

—–

7. “I got a right to say FUCK YOU!!!” is how the new album from guitarist Marc Ribot’s trio CERAMIC DOG starts off, with Ribot howling in anger at corruption, tyranny, life in general, and nothing in particular. The album YRU Still Here? on NORTHERN SPY RECORDS (US) just in time to remind us that now is a moment when anger is necessary and unavoidable. Musically it continues the lineage of his earlier experimental no-wave/punk/noise groups Rootless Cosmopolitans and Shrek. Beside Ribot, you can find Shahzad Ismaily (Secret Chiefs 3, Will Oldham, Ben Frost) on bass/electronics and drummer Ches Smith (Xiu Xiu, Secret Chiefs 3, Trevor Dunn’s Trio Convulsant).

—–

8. Our favourite psychedelic rock band from Bordeaux JC SATAN recently released their new album CENTAURE DESIRE on BORN BAD RECORDS (F)

You also can buy a beautiful JC SATAN / PIRESIAN BEACH split 7″ vinyl EP released on RNR666 RECORDS

—–

9. American psychedelic rock band WOODEN SHJIPS expand their already rich sound with laid back, classic summer songs on their new album V on THRILL JOCKEY RECORDS (US). It focused on the power of peace, beauty, and resistance and the music is a balm against the noise and negativity.

—–

10. The BAD PELICANS definitely sit on the throne of the most surprising underground band in Paris. They spent the past the last 3 years destroying all the independent venues in the city and released 3 demo tapes to date which all sold out immediately. So now here is their debut album BEST OF on STOLEN BODY RECORDS (UK)

—–

11. EFOSHEHU it’s an amazing Israeli rock band. New album on Juval (TV Buddhas, Vaadat Charigim) runs label NOAR AVUD RECORDS (Isr). Efoshehu is the Hebrew word for Somewhere.

—–

12. Raw power on drum’n’organ by ARCHIE AND THE BUNKERS (US). Influences range from jazz organ greats like Jimmy Smith, and Richard “Groove” Holmes, to punk icons Dead Boys, The Stooges, The Screamers, and more. New album SONGS FROM THE LODGE on DIRTY WATER RECORDS (UK)

—–

13. LOVE… WITH A LITTLE BIT OF NOISE is the debut album of French garage rock and roll band BLACK BOYS ON MOPED on Beast Records and Castagne Records. When I first heard the song FYA I walked around the room made headbang and some guitar moves and cried: fuck you! Try it!

—–

14. CHARNEL GROUND is a meeting of Chris Brokaw (Come/Codeine/The New Year etc). on electric guitar, James McNew (Yo La Tengo, Dump) on bass, and Kid Millions (Oneida/Man Forever/etc) on drums, dedicated to exploring the outer and inner regions of instrumental psychedelic noise rock music. Debut album on 12XU RECORDS(US)

—–

15. The Australian songwriter LEHMANN B. SMITH compiling album after album of unreleased material and storing them away in his home studio for a rainy day. He says “I find it hard to believe that I work as hard as other people because I do spend a lot of my free time just lounging around watching TV and going to the pub and stuff like that. I put out a lot of album, but to me, that just seems like a natural part of playing music – if you love it, you’re going to leave this big trail of albums behind you.” He pauses. “I don’t know, though – maybe everyone else just has better quality control than I do.”

7th album POPULAR MUSIC on BEDROOM SUCK RECORDS (AUS)

—–

16. I love if a band can make me some laugh with their music like DOG CHOCOLATE from London. By their own words, they perhaps play sloppy, messy, silly and jerky punk music. New album MOODY BALLOON BABY on UPSET THE RHYTHM RECORDS (UK)

—–

17. BIRDS OF PARADISE are Roy Vucino and Hannah Lewis from Montreal based „free style rock‘n’roll community” and band RED MASS. Pop songs about love and confusion on the album ESTO AMOR on CUCHABATA RECORDS (CAN)

—–

18. – It’s an album I always wanted to make and it almost took me 10 years after the last release „Surreal Folk Blues Gospel Trash” in 2007 .. I’m sorry.. Way too long.. but I think it’s a good album and I love it.. and I hope you too… It’s a bit different to the others and to the music today… but who cares 😉 – wrote REVEREND BEAT-MAN from his new album BLUES TRASH on VOODOO RHYTHM RECORDS (CH)

—–

19. The story of INSECURE MEN has started in Paris when the Fat White Family’s main songwriter Saul Adamczewski was asked to leave the band temporarily after refusing to vacate the Paris venue the band was playing because he’d arranged to meet a heroin dealer there later on.

He said about: “I fell into a downward spiral, living on a friend’s floor just smoking crack and heroin and doing nothing else. After four months I snapped out of it and realized I needed to get clean. When I came out of rehab I had nothing left other than these songs – I was like a ship without a sail – so it started to look like Insecure Men was something I should definitely pursue as my main project.”

He teamed up with his school friend Ben Romans-Hopcraft (from the band Childhood) and recorded those songs which blend together exotica, easy listening, lounge and timeless pop music. Debut album on FAT POSSUM RECORDS (US)

Like a Renaissance Girl

29 years old British poet, playwright and rapper Kate Tempest‘s second Speedy Wunderground single is a duet with Londoner fellow Loyle Carner. In the Guts his acid jazzy sound blends with Kate’s hard, electronic beats. This is a special release because the label’s strict order of recordings: recording in the dark with smoke and lazers, need to use Swarmatron (a hand-built analogue synthesiser), recording time is one day, finish before midnight, no lunch break, mixing on the next day.

I can’t refrain to doing list Tempest’s main influences: Virginia Woolf, MF Doom, Samuel Beckett, John Coltrane, James Joyce, Roots Manuva, William Blake, Wu-Tang Clan, Milan Kundera, GZA, Knut Hamson, Mos Def, Yeats, Nina Simone, Carson McCullers, The Knife, Kafka, Scroobius Pip, and Confucius… Her first solo album „Everybody Down” was made together with the producer Dan Carey (Franz Ferdinand, Bat For Lashes, TOY, Django Django, Emiliana Torrini, The Kills, Kylie Minogue, Tame Impala, founder of Speedy Wunderground). It was released this year on Big Dada Records. „Alternative hip-hop” trio Sound of Rum was her previous project. It had a jazzy taste thanks to the drums and guitar.

On Clapton Pound at dawn

The pond was calm
the sky was new
your voice was soft your lies were true.
You were me and I was you
and I was going blind with you.

You told me I reminded you
of Venus when I smiled at you,
or angels that go flying through
the paintings in the quietest rooms
of galleries. Renaissance girls,
all soft curves and floating curls.
We sat there and the light shone through
the leaves and we admired the view.

I loved you.
I had died for you
that night,
I’d closed my eyes
and through the gaps
I’d sought your silhouette.
I’d given up my mind for you.
We did what all our kind would do.

You sat beside me, finding new
ways to look away.
You kissed me. It was lighter fuel.
It burnt the night away.
And when I took my eyes off you
I saw that it was day.

Bang Bang

Speedy Wunderground is a very special little label in London. It was formed in early 2013 by the producer Dan Carey. He worked together with Franz Ferdinand, Bat For Lashes, TOY, Django Django, Emiliana Torrini, The Kills, Kylie Minogue, Tame Impala among others.
The Speedy Wunderground works under strict rules: Dan will produce all releases. All records will be recorded at Dan’s studio. Recording of all records will be done in one day and finish before midnight. Mixing will be done the day following the recording, also in one day only. There will be no lunch break during these days. The core of each song will be a live take recorded in the dark with smoke and lazers and somewhere on each record the Swarmatron (a hand-built analogue synthesiser) will make an appearance. The recordings will appear in limited runs of 250 7”s.

bangbang

Natalie Bang Bang is a Riot Grrrl. She said it. And made mention of Serge Gainsbourg, David Bowie, Madonna, A$AP Rocky and David Byrne as her top musicians. And picked Loser by Beck as her national anthem. But nevertheless she is just a teen spice girl in soft Madonna style. Maybe this post punk disco track is her first really good song

From New Records

Natasha Khan is an English singer-songwriter. She was born into a Muslim family in London to a Pakistani father and an English mother. Her carreer: school truant because of her mates’ racism – card-packing factory worker & songwriter and home music maker – University of Brighton: music and visual arts – make three successful and critically well acclaimed albums between 2006-12 under the name: Bat For Lahes. Those bore me. Her music and voice come in my mind Björk and Madonna. But now here is an exciting track from her, a cover version of an Amir Rassaei song, Aroos Khanom. Accompanied by TOY

The Bride, 7″ in 250 copies by Speedy Wunderground

Amir Rassaei was(?) an Iranian singer before the Islamic Revolution. After the revolution the western-style music would be banned there, but it’s alive. A very good film about the recent Persian music.

I put video to this post very rarely. In this case the song must be marvellous. I never write such records from which I can’t embed or upload a track. But now: Manatees (from Memphis) – Destruktor 7” by Tic Tac Totally  << You can listen both songs.
